We have been thrilled to be part of the Mark Turner Construction team working to repurpose the former Whittaker Memorial Hospital. Part of National Register of Historic Places, it is being converted from a hospital building into an apartment complex for low- to middle-income tenants in Newport News’ Southeast Community.
According to the Daily Press,
“The hospital was built and designed by black doctors and architects, and it was the only place black residents could get medical treatment in their community besides a local jail.”
Hotboys Commercial is laboring to add new HVAC for the 67 new apartments. It’s always an adventure moving that much hardware from the ground up to the roof with the use of cranes, but it’s all in a days work for us.
