Air conditioning

AC Replacement for Hampton Homes

When the old air conditioner is worn out, we take it out and set a new unit sized to your house by a load calculation, with the whole job priced before we start.

The estimate is free and commits you to nothing. We answer the phone or call back the same working day.

The swap

AC Replacement in Hampton

AC replacement in Hampton swaps an aging residential or commercial air conditioner for a new unit that is sized correctly for the building.

The outdoor condenser and the indoor coil are built to work as a matched pair, so a replacement normally changes them together instead of bolting a new condenser to a tired coil.

Comes out

  • The worn condenser beside the house
  • The old coil on the furnace or air handler
  • The old refrigerant, recovered into a tank

Goes in

  • A new condenser, level on its pad
  • A coil built for that condenser
  • A clear "condensate drain" for the water the coil pulls out

When to replace

When to Replace an Air Conditioner

An aging air conditioner, a unit that needs a new compressor, or a unit that keeps calling for repairs is usually worth replacing.

If you see these at your house, price a new system before you pay for the next fix.

  • Getting on in years

Older units lose capacity and efficiency, and each repair buys less time than the last.

  • The compressor has quit

It is the heart of the outdoor unit and its costliest part, so on an older system the math tips toward new.

  • A service call every summer

Money spent on the same unit season after season is better put toward its successor.

  • Cooling bills creeping up

A bill that climbs while the thermostat stays where it always was points to a unit losing ground.

Sizing

Sizing the Replacement Unit

A load calculation sizes the new air conditioner, rather than copying whatever is printed on the old unit's label.

The trade's standard method is ACCA Manual J, and a "Manual J load calculation" works from the house as it stands today. The old unit may have been the wrong size from the start, or the house may have changed since with new windows or more insulation.

An oversized unit cools the air fast and shuts off again, the "short cycling" that leaves rooms cold and clammy, while an undersized unit runs all afternoon and never catches up.

What the calculation reads

  • Square footage and layout
  • Windows and sun exposure
  • Air leaks
  • Insulation
  • The duct runs
Vacuum pump hoses connected to the service ports of a new outdoor condenser

Refrigerant

Refrigerant Changes in New Units

The federal move away from R-410A toward A2L refrigerants such as R-454B shapes which new air conditioners go in today.

The trade cites that 2026 transition as a factor in new-system decisions, because new condensers and coils are built around the newer refrigerant. Refrigerant is recovered from the old system and charged into the new unit only by technicians certified under the U.S. EPA's refrigerant handling rules.

How a Replacement Runs

From the estimate to the clean pad, the job runs in this order.

  1. You call, we set a time

We answer or call back the same working day, and we turn up when we said we would.

  2. Measure, then price

The load calculation, a look at the ducts and the wiring, then the whole job quoted before work starts.

  3. The old unit comes out

Refrigerant is recovered, the lines are cut free and the old condenser and coil leave the property.

  4. The new system goes in

The condenser is set level, the coil is fitted, and the lines are joined and pulled into a deep vacuum.

  5. Started and checked

We start it, measure the airflow and the "static pressure" in the ducts, and sweep up before we go.

What it costs

What Sets the Price

Every replacement is priced to the house, so the number comes from the visit and not from a chart. These are the things that move it.

Capacity
The size the load calculation calls for
Efficiency
Higher-efficiency equipment costs more up front and less to run
Line set and pad
Whether the copper lines and the pad can stay or need replacing
Ducts and wiring
Repairs or upgrades the new unit needs to run right
Access
How hard the coil is to reach in the closet, garage or attic
